It gives a working definition of healthy spirituality.  Four case studies address the significance of individual values, guilt, anger, and grief as they relate to anxiety and pain.  The theological rationale for the project is based on Paul Tillich's threefold description of existential anxiety. The study indicates that chronic pain is more often the result of life history than medical history. The author uses a control group and two study groups.  Only the latter two groups receive instruction.  The Flanders-Amidon style descriptions are used with those two groups.  The project tests two variables: awareness and attitude.  For the first, the research supports the thesis.  For the second, it does not. It applies the concepts of event thinking and the theologically qualified ecological ethic.  The ethics committee is an excellent forum in which to raise awareness of ethical issues and strategies. The researcher designed a curriculum on the canonical approach advocated by Brevard Childs.  Questionnaires tested the clergy and laity before and after the intervention of the approach in preaching. Results indicated that out of 20 questions for the clergy no significant changes took place.  With regard to 10 questions for the laity two showed a significant change. These are that when a preacher and the persons listening to his or her sermon are of the same personlality type the response to the sermon by the listener will be more positive than when their types differ; and when a preacher and those persons listening to his or her sermon are of differing personality types communication is impeded. Data was gathered by using both the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and eight sermons preached with the same congregation during one twelve-week period. The thesis traces the roots of these concerns and their developments in the denomination.  The author contends that leaders in Shalom Congregations will be more tolerant of ambiguity, less dogmatic, less rigid, and more cosmopolitan in their orientation than others in the church.  He used personal visits, interviews and questionnaires with five of the original Shalom Congregations in the program. In order to do so a congregation must first understand how decisions are made and how it relates to that process.  The research involved interviews with 25 community leaders in business, politics, and society who help determine the primary and secondary leaders of the community.  The primary leaders were interviewed and their style of leadership analyzed.  The author suggests ways a local congregation may influence community
