Research was conducted through a five-year observation of a family recovery program in San Diego, California, and was substantiated by several current recovery models.  The subject recovery program, PARTS (Parents and Adolescents Recovering Together Successfully), is self-managed by families with addicted children. The systems approach provided a significant shift in perception about the congregation, which enabled the pastor to bring positive action to a very difficult situation.
