The primary research question is, 'How does external SCSBC funding affect the success and health of African-American church plants?' The research was grounded on work done in fields of study related to the subjects of church planting, church health, and church funding. The scope of this research was limited to the African-American church plants of the SCSBC in the last decade. Considering that many churches are declining or have plateaued, this study sought to discover practical, effective strategies and techniques that have contributed to overall church growth by baptism and conversion. The author asked what these practices were, how they were taught, and how they were modeled by the leadership. The author's research preceding the case study gives a review and foundation from the early church's teaching and experience in evangelism, discipleship, missions, pastoral leadership, and church growth to the present. A closer look was given at the causes and effects of little to no obedience and commitment to the Great Commission. The overarching research question was 'What leadership practices of senior pastors of Southern Baptist Churches in South Carolina with 500 or more worship attenders have enabled those churches to grow rapidly for three consecutive years?'  Grounded Theory was the method used in this research.  A 360 degree interview approach with the senior pastor and three key leaders in each church provided the data for research. Personal participation in missions has been missing in many traditional South Carolina Baptist churches. There is a need to shift to a new paradigm of doing missions.  A growing number of South Carolina Baptist churches have implemented a partnership strategy--resulting in greater involvement among the congregation.  The methodology used in this field research was a case study involving six churches.  These churches had little missions involvement until adopting the partnership strategy.
