It uses a mixed method design that incorporated both descriptive and quantitative data analyses in an effort to determine the impact of: 1) family of origin and past life experiences, 2) missionary life stress, and 3) the practice of different disciplines on the lives of missionary men serving in cross-cultural contexts overseas. Overseas male missionaries from five North American evangelical mission agencies (617 men) were asked to participate in an anonymous web-based survey with 226 men completing the survey. Prevalent themes and factors impacting male missionary sexual purity emerged in the study. Study results point to the importance of past life experiences, the impact of cross-cultural life stresses, and the employment of specific disciplines. These factors affect a man's pursuit of sexual purity."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720678432178176,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:09:47.726Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:25:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:23:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"55682ed7-5370-482a-b5d2-10ec5e5b1203","accessControl_ssim":["035268fe-c160-4055-a6af-73368cf9b30e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A study of the second career missionary culture at SEND Interntational"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:25:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:38:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9232cea8-2a58-4787-893b-f6144dffab83"],"hasLease_ssim":["f5fd412f-15e1-488a-bd06-bd0d25df1f9c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["Roy M King"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John B Barnett"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions of Columbia International University"],"subject_tesim":["Missionaries--Training of","Career changes"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The research sought to determine if people going from the business world into full time missions should be recruited, trained and placed on the field differently than those who went into mission straight out of college or seminary. These factors include: spiritual preparation, leadership buy-in, the on-going communication of vision and philosophy, a healthy launch, congregational buy-in and successfully passing on the philosophical DNA of making disciples. The on-going communication of vision and philosophy was determined to be the most critical factor in this change process. This study also relates these factors to John Kotter's eight-stage process of change from his book Leading change (1996). While this study acknowledges the difficulty of changing hearts and values through organizational efforts, careful attention to the six critical factors of this study during the change process will greatly ease natural resistance to change."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127517770285056,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:45:11.106Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:53:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:00:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a6ce4ce4-0fee-4e98-a8be-dc482bc1c93c","accessControl_ssim":["9a542ad4-8543-4113-bbb9-ae1de691cce3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Conversions and reconversions in South Gujarat: an analytical study of the responses of the converts and reconverts in the context of persecution"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:53:57Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:58:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c0b0a4f9-964b-4798-9958-4b9c04e2733b"],"hasLease_ssim":["1fc0107b-b172-4627-a68b-f5556db4dd02"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["Junias Venugopal"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"location_tesim":["India--Gujarat"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jayakumar Ramachandran"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions of Columbia International University"],"subject_tesim":["Persecution","Hindu converts from Christianity","Christian converts from Hinduism","Christianity","Hinduism"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This research paper primarily investigates the causes for re-conversion of certain Christian converts in Gujarat who renounced their Christian identity and returned to the Hindu faith. In light of the recent historical guarded attitude towards the Holy Spirit, the research revealed that a major factor that has influenced the churches' numerical growth was the healthy respect and anticipation the leaders had towards person, gifts, ministries, and leading of the Holy Spirit, and willingness to fellowship with believers who hold differing pneumatological positions."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129247863013376,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:12:41.051Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:52:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:09:31Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b88b51b3-a1ea-413a-af6b-962bd5207367","accessControl_ssim":["4a06ca8e-f76a-4f95-97d4-9ea58abb85d2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Nonformal pastoral ministry training in the majority world: four case studies"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:52:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:27:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["107b6786-f6f0-4397-88db-e6989428a58e"],"hasLease_ssim":["d0c64790-8348-4248-8cd1-44f1af0d544d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert W Ferris"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John Morrison Balmer"],"keyword_tesim":["Theology, Contextual"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions of Columbia International University"],"subject_tesim":["Strategy","Developing countries","Case studies","Missions","Religious education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this research is to study the programs of four indigenous, nonformal pastoral ministry training centers in the Majority World in order to identify core values, key principles, and training strategies. The research conclusions reflect various core values, key principles, and training methodologies and strategies as they are realized in the philosophy of the program design, the characteristics of the student population, the cultural context, the training needs of the target audience, the personalities and philosophies of the main leadership core staff, and other factors of the specific training institution. The final recommendations to educators in Majority World ministry training programs are: (1) develop a strong indigenous infrastructure before launching the program, (2) avoid dependence on foreign funding and expatriate faculty, and (3) develop a healthy training model that plans for measured growth. Therefore, any ministry training program should not be uncritically transported to cultural contexts in the Majority World without contextualizing the curriculum and program design."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129053087924224,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:09:35.299Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:47:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:18:25Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c8061e92-401a-4037-8432-47d24ffb5ae4","accessControl_ssim":["a38dd1b2-689e-42bf-a2fb-7f3469ca1bd1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Evaluation of Campus Crusade for Christ's missionary training program in Romania"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:47:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:52:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8b5bfe7b-5005-40b9-af8b-5f7d8bd67d32"],"hasLease_ssim":["7adb2397-8ad2-4f95-80a3-3915f6b70b8f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["Ronald Kroll"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"location_tesim":["Romania"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Daniel J Clement"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions of Columbia International University"],"subject_tesim":["Missionaries--Training of","Campus Crusade for Christ","Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["'Biblical Training for Coverage Leaders' is mandated with ensuring leadership for a Romanian ministry of evangelism and discipleship.
