These reasons are related to differences observed in the three church categories used for this study (that is, churches distinguished by higher and lower attrition rates and by more mobility); in the areas of evangelism (message and method) and discipleship (including church discipline and congregational life). In Chapter 1, the author has explored the biblio-theological context of the problem, examining an overview of Yoruba culture and religious concepts. The review of precedent research literature in cultural anthropology and cultural ceremonies mostly related to the 'rites of passage' which have to do with elemental symbolism used in these family ceremonies are in Chapter 2. A definition of the research search strategy, implementation, analysis, and reporting of data are focused in Chapter 3. An opinion poll, reported in Chapter 4, was conducted among Yoruba Christians resident in selected U.S. cities, to determine prevailing trends in cultural inclination towards or away from syncretization. Of all respondents, 60.75 percent are opposed to syncretizing of culture-related worship. In Chapter 5, the author focuses a theological, biblically based educational program designed to assist Yoruba ministers and members deal contextually with family worship, without drifting into syncretism."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131362346926080,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:46:17.579Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:09:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:42:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8421a979-2773-4f91-9fc1-20c14e20758f","accessControl_ssim":["729831b9-ebeb-4200-bdbd-e63bb5bfda88"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A study of factors influencing missionary candidates of the boomer/buster generation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:09:31Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:01:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["de963dfb-959b-453a-89ce-27dcbaf4ed51"],"hasLease_ssim":["4250e2f8-a361-47b7-a3bf-e93ab1e5cf4b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["David Finnell"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Herman W Russell"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions of Columbia International University"],"subject_tesim":["Baby boom generation","Generation X","Missionaries--Appointment, call, and election"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this dissertation is to identify and measure the influences and concerns affecting the decision making of missionary candidates of the boomer and buster generations. The sixty-four participants in the evaluation were students from a Bible college and a seminary in Kenya and a Bible college and a seminary in Ethiopia. The research sought answers to six research questions by investigating the response to two selected chapters in the book. More emphasis must be placed on the missionary nature of the church if Ivorian cities are to be evangelized."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130939049377792,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:39:33.892Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:52:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"97517521-4abc-4ad5-9637-875f64694b49","accessControl_ssim":["4c9241f9-f88b-4a73-ab79-69d1a0b6b913"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The identification of learning needs in local churches as a basis for motivating improvement in teaching programs"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:33:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["49d6379a-2689-4504-b028-f4f6a29ababc"],"hasLease_ssim":["5feb33a9-0add-4514-ac13-2dc388d48c2d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert W Ferris"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ivan W Bowden"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions of Columbia International University"],"subject_tesim":["Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Evidence suggests that the teaching ministry in today's church is weaker than in New Testament churches. The dissertation offers a model for motivating improvement based on the identification of three types of need: felt, real and educational. Members of four churches from different denominations rated topics and took a 50-item test on Bible, doctrine, missions, and ethics prepared with the help of a modified Delphi technique. Significant needs were exposed. Real need was not always matched by a felt need, casting doubt on its motivating power.
