The project is based on interviews of seventeen college students by a college chaplain at a Presbyterian, liberal arts college. The project explores how the Office of the Chaplaincy at the University of Richmond can be more proactive in responding to the religious and spiritual needs of students at UR. This study describes the reactions of Christian students from Trinity University to the faith and practice of those whom they meet while studying abroad. After reviewing an alternative model of Christian missionary, the critical distinction between missions and missio Dei, and cross-cultural diffusion of Christianity, themes drawn from interviews with students are presented, as well as student perceptions of the impact of studying abroad on their faith. Despite being in the middle of a college campus for over one hundred years, there is no organized ministry between Banner Elk Presbyterian Church and the students of Lees-McRae College.  Through a survey and conversations with students regarding their spiritual needs, Banner Elk Presbyterian Church set out to redefine its presence on the campus Lees-McRae College.
