Particular theologies, doctrines, morals, and ethics of various religious traditions have contributed to the beliefs, attitudes, mores, and behaviors which have negatively influenced public policy regarding HIV/AIDS and harmfully impacted persons living with, and affected by, the disease.  This project defines the theological and religious barriers to HIV prevention and care and describes the personal and sociomoral impact these barriers impose on the public health system and public policy as well as persons living with HIV disease. If HIV/AIDS patients are cared for, they will live longer and their lives will be more fulfilled.  The threat that the disease presents to society is highlighted, the natures of the disease is looked at, the needs of the patients and attitudes towards them are explored and the church's response is considered.  The research reveals that the church is not adequately responding to the needs of HIV/AIDS patients. After analyzing the traditional coupling model and exploring the psychosocial issues of homosexual men and their coupling, the project presents a model specifically tailored to homosexual concerns.
