This project proposes that Western culture continues to promote this model of family out of an unexamined biblical bias. Family based on bloodline relationship is the primary, preferred, and dominant biblical model. The project interviewed nontraditional families about how they have or have not been received by their faith communities and how they understand family. Using feminist and womanist understandings of relationship and morality, the project offers nine foundational principles for an inclusive ethic of the family that underlie recommendations for ministry that includes nontraditional families."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129105280794624,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:10:25.074Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:12:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:58:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5f2a998b-e65c-4c22-9f96-03d5ddd0b811","accessControl_ssim":["0f247601-b86e-41d6-b358-83ee583188b4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Church school worship: faithful ministry to families with young children"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:12:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:55:42Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bbc1ee29-8a36-4837-bdf7-adb3a59fbf31"],"hasLease_ssim":["c18fa329-b74b-491a-989d-47e5e534646d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ronald H Cram"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Thomas W Blair"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with families","Sunday schools","Worship","Church work with children","Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Given the common quandry many local congregations face regarding the place of young children in worship, it makes good sense to set aside time for a supplementary worship service for families with young children. Adults once distanced from the church have an open door to the church provided them as well as a new place for service and participation. Children of diverse ages are provided both a new forum for active participation and a time for worship. All those involved are given a new context in which to participate in the narrative message of the gospel which claims seekers and believers in ways which nurture faith and stimulate the enterprise of raising children with biblical faith. This event, called church school worship, meets contemporary social and religious needs especially prevalent among baby boomer parents. It can serve as a vital and creative tool within a comprehensive family ministry of a local congregation. This study is an analysis of social and theological aspects of the need and purpose of such a worship service as it has been carried out under the auspices of Davidson College Presbyterian Church (Davidson, North Carolina)."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128361857187840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:58:36.090Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:28:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:14:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c9bf7bf8-7ad1-4d8f-ac4c-fb1f13275b28","accessControl_ssim":["77e28921-3499-4916-923d-6c279da79ff2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Marriage as a covenant for relationship: our response to the divine invitation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:28:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:55:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a8f5c81b-8c35-4058-9da1-5e91e680f41c"],"hasLease_ssim":["bcc8663d-d1ea-4fa7-8a44-97fd37e79b89"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jasper N Keith"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William C Hayes"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with families","Marriage counseling","Domestic relations"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Understanding marriage as the most significant way for us to share in the loving, committed relationship to which God invites us seems to be a foreign concept for many today.
