Using the basic qualitative research method, the author interviewed middle-aged men and women and young adults to ascertain how they made sense of childhood experiences of death and how that affected their current attitudes toward death. She concluded that many lack the ability to talk about death and how to prepare for it, and that to die well, one must live well. This project considers the spiritual needs unique to persons with alzheimer's, and how faith communities can respond to those needs.  A framework of pastoral ministry outlined by Eugene Peterson is used to examine the ministries of three professionals working with persons with alzheimer's. If HIV/AIDS patients are cared for, they will live longer and their lives will be more fulfilled.  The threat that the disease presents to society is highlighted, the natures of the disease is looked at, the needs of the patients and attitudes towards them are explored and the church's response is considered.  The research reveals that the church is not adequately responding to the needs of HIV/AIDS patients.
