The concept of spiritual deep listening is viewed through the framework of the church history, family ties and in acts of worship through song, prayer, the preached word, as wellas acts of outreach. The concept of the beloved community expressed by Dr. Martin Luther King provides the theoretical framework for viewing the hteology of community expressed at Calvary United Methodist Church as the members struggle to listen to one another, the neighborhood, and the larger community. The research technoques used include observations, workshops and interviews with congregants. Data was also collected using a questionaire designed to sample the congregation for their growth in understanding the concept of listening deeply like Jesus. The result of this project has been an embracing of the active listening model in the communications among church members at Calvary United Methodist Church. Strong participation in a recent church retreat demonstrated the acceptance of the deep spiritual listening concept as members supported each other in hearing and responding."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128319925682176,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:57:56.101Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:02:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"78ee34c9-e7f4-423a-a58b-12be87cf53ad","accessControl_ssim":["78631b3a-3b4b-4983-a72c-f9a21d43630a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Repentance as regeneration: the practice of mutual invitation as missional formation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:41:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7b356d22-915b-4c34-8f85-f443dbc174a5"],"hasLease_ssim":["185b0772-102a-47e0-97a8-fa26ea821784"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David Forney"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mary Rebecca Burton"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Communication--Religious aspects--Christianity","Presbyterian Church","Law, Eric H F","Calvin, Jean, 1509-1564","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The question of redemptive communication in mediating difficult issues and conflict has been an issue in Presbyterian congregations. This project focuses the intersection of John Calvin's theology of repentance and a communications method developed by Episcopal priest Eric Law with a particular Session and other members of the congregation. Law's method was explored with the Session. A qualitative research design was developed and a series of surveys and interviews with elders and church consultant were conducted. The research discloses that Calvin's understanding of repentance as change connects with Law's process since it seeks to help leaders and congregations engage in conflict and a changing environment in a healthy manner."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128615207829504,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:02:37.703Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":2,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Mary Rebecca Burton","hits":1,"label":"Mary Rebecca Burton"},{"value":"Willie Roy Rogers","hits":1,"label":"Willie Roy Rogers"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Congregations--Internal conflict","hits":1,"label":"Congregations--Internal conflict"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Communication--Religious aspects--Christianity","hits":2,"label":"Communication--Religious aspects--Christianity"},{"value":"Calvin, Jean, 1509-1564","hits":1,"label":"Calvin, Jean, 1509-1564"},{"value":"Congregations","hits":1,"label":"Congregations"},{"value":"Law, Eric H F","hits":1,"label":"Law, Eric H F"},{"value":"Listening","hits":1,"label":"Listening"},{"value":"Missions--Theory","hits":1,"label":"Missions--Theory"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"United States","hits":1,"label":"United States"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":2,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":2,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":2,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"2005","hits":1,"label":"2005"},{"value":"2008","hits":1,"label":"2008"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":2,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":2,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":2,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":2,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":2,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
