The method was to establish two centering prayer groups meeting for six weeks to engage in centering prayer daily with weekly group meetings. To evaluate the effectiveness of centering prayer practice, pre-centering prayer and post-centering prayer surveys were conducted to determine stress changes noted due to the centering prayer. This report explores the relationship between prayer and devotional practices and theories of personality type. It uses the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator as a primary instrument in determining what particular practices are beneficial and sustainable by the faithful. The author carried out his research using a narrative study methodology, also making use of ethnographic practices on both clergy and laity. The research concluded that a dark night of the soul starts with a perceived separation from God and leads to a reconnection with God.
