At such a crossroads they may lose the joy of the adventure of faith alongside any deeper understanding of what happens in worship. This project focuses on such a congregation. The project explores how a theology of play may deepen understandings of worship and allow for the recover of a joyful attitude about a church's life together. This research project proposes the possibility that liturgical elements of worship can serve to connect these worldviews.  Worship theology, history, and practice are the basis for analyzing the worship practices in a particular congregation from modern and postmodern perspectives. Churches need to practice the Eucharist in spaces other than church sanctuaries, and space in sanctuaries should be organized to embody meanings of the Eucharist. Churches should also embody in the Eucharist a Christian understanding and practice of time rather than an American time orientation.
