One way for churches to help in Christian identity formation is through the practice of testimony, when members share their faith stories to encourage and nurture one another. This report briefly explores Christian identity formation in the twenty-first century along with the understanding of testimony in the Bible and church history. Then it details how one congregation has begun the practice of testimony, with members sharing faith stories in worship. This project seeks to demonstrate that an intentional practice of metaphor enables faith communities to testify to the work and wonder of God. The report explores the theological and liturgical importance of biblical metaphors before examining one particular community's engagement with a biblical metaphor, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Woodstock, Georgia. This study defines and discusses individualism at the family meal table and the 'Lord's Table.'  I then discuss these findings in the light of the Gospels, First Corinthians 11, and John Calvin's writings to gain theological/historical perspective.  Finally, I argue that individualism severely weakens our experience of the Lord's Table and the Church's witness. Generally, personnel witness has been replaced by a truncated, sterile proclamation of the gospel.  As a result, many people have a negative, stereotyped conception of what faith sharing is. This has contributed to a decline and hesistancy in sharing the Christian faith.  This dissertation explores ancient and modern models of faith sharing to determine how crucial personal witness is.
