Hispanic theology strives to find points of contact between the socio-historical experience of Latino communities and their religious expressions.  Latino theological thought discusses topics which are important for the Latino people--like migration--by confronting the challenges of today with the biblical and theological experiences of the past.  Hispanic theologians establish a correlation between the social location of the Latino people and that of the biblical texts.  The implications of this correlation are evoked by a key metaphor that embodies their findings and functions, thus, as a paradigmatic concept.  Then, the paradigm is used to exegete both the Bible and Hispanic reality.  This dissertation discusses such thesis and states the implications of this hermeneutical model for Latino theological thought."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128761853280256,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:04:57.555Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:35:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:55:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4e9a975a-ecff-4229-9816-5e33243b6e33","accessControl_ssim":["ccc7517f-582b-4d76-90e8-4984def8a8e9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping church leaders to discern the needs of their parish community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:35:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:26:28Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2425c157-ec2e-468a-879e-c1d64da35435"],"hasLease_ssim":["402eae86-4595-4f64-8703-e4c63b8557b3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ben C Johnson"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John W Carpenter"],"keyword_tesim":["Church and community"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Needs assessment"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author's thesis is that church leaders must understand the composition of their parish community and what residents believe and think if they are to be successful in building attractive bridge-programs which reach into their community with the gospel. Chapter 1 is an introduction to the problem of forgiving, which has several dimensions.  Little work has been done on this issue, and the work which has been done is, to some degree, confusing.  The way the church has approached the issue of forgiveness has added to the ambiguity.  Chapter 2 is a study of biblical meanings of forgiveness, and it begins with some thoughts on sin. The latter part of this section is an effort to differentiate forgiveness from the atonement and from reconciliation.  The final step is to define forgiveness. Chapter 3 is a study of some developmental and social factors that have the potential to enable or inhibit forgiveness. Space is given to family relationships and the ways that families influence ability to enter into relationships with others, followed by an overview of shame and its manifestations.  The final section of the chapter is a discussion of a different approach that the church might take to the issue of forgiveness."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128100187144193,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:54:26.542Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:33:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:08:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a2d9d770-9678-497c-809d-016a3ded4d10","accessControl_ssim":["3b22f625-f3d6-45b2-8689-4f2cf1136f3f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Revisioning the office of overseer within the Church of God"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:33:30Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:52:23Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9f6a1397-6723-4220-ba2d-1d0407c00e5b"],"hasLease_ssim":["72b6755f-08d0-4b0a-b309-e6066fcd1d00"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Catherine Gunsalus González"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James A Dickens"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Bishops--Office","Church of God"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The role of the state overseer within the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) is examined in relation to the biblical and historical role of the bishop. This image comes from 2 Corinthians 5:16-21.  The Apostle Paul makes it clear that it is the church, the gathered community, where one begins to see in a new way what God is doing.  There were some very definite tensions for the first century Christians as they sought to live out their identity as the new creation.  Paul believed that this new creation was not just something to look forward to in the future, but that it was an emerging reality for them in their day.  Using the Corinthian situation, the church today seeks to discover how the 'eschaton' is present and visible in the midst of history in the person and work of Jesus Christ. The hope for this new future begins to control how the church believes, thinks, and acts in the present.  The new creation is a reality now. Such a vision allows the church to live in the tensions of the already and the not yet and the theological and sociological realities of the church. The issue for the church is to shape a community which allows the people to see with gospel eyes."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127952079978496,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:52:05.296Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:30:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:58:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5e2e424a-c481-4960-8ee4-e6dc51fd6edf","accessControl_ssim":["2f44b4dd-687b-466c-92c3-10031b3f8dfa"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Enhancing the college search peer ministry retreat"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:30:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:54:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a952d806-fc81-4baa-9d3f-e338582c3173"],"hasLease_ssim":["f56ad332-3d17-4ea4-8045-6bd8eb7003c1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Oscar Hussel"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Raymond A Dunmyer"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Students--Psychology","Students--Religious life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author researched the critical issues for the college-age young adult in the areas of psychological development and spiritual growth. Ministers as well as laity may well wait for an individual to approach them with a grief-related situation before they give thought to what will be said or done in order to help the bereaved.  In that 'on the spot' form of ministry, the minister does not present his/her best pastoral side and the care-receiver may walk away feeling as though their needs have not been addressed adequately.  This dissertation is designed as a practical resource to assist both clergy and laity in the development of an intentional grief ministry within their respective congregational settings. It takes two forms: that of evaluation of the particular church's current ministry to those experiencing grief as well as instruction in the establishment of an intentional grief ministry. Emphasis is placed on the care provider's ability to develop a meaningful relationship with the care receiver."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128611308175360,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:02:33.985Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":14,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Benjamin S Booth","hits":1,"label":"Benjamin S Booth"},{"value":"Danny C Murphy","hits":1,"label":"Danny C Murphy"},{"value":"Ernest T Thompson","hits":1,"label":"Ernest T Thompson"},{"value":"G Russell Hickman","hits":1,"label":"G Russell Hickman"},{"value":"James A Dickens","hits":1,"label":"James A Dickens"},{"value":"James G Hughes","hits":1,"label":"James G Hughes"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Church and community","hits":1,"label":"Church and community"},{"value":"New creation","hits":1,"label":"New creation"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Pastoral theology","hits":2,"label":"Pastoral theology"},{"value":"Aging--Religious aspects--Christianity","hits":1,"label":"Aging--Religious aspects--Christianity"},{"value":"Bannerman, Glen","hits":1,"label":"Bannerman, Glen"},{"value":"Bible--Hispanic interpretations","hits":1,"label":"Bible--Hispanic interpretations"},{"value":"Bishops--Office","hits":1,"label":"Bishops--Office"},{"value":"Children--Institutional care","hits":1,"label":"Children--Institutional care"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"Latin America","hits":1,"label":"Latin America"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":14,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":14,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":14,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1995","hits":14,"label":"1995"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":14,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":14,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":14,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":14,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":2,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":2,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":14,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":false}}}
