The project research is a case study of a pastor leading a congregation that has been wounded by misconduct to mission engagement. The research and findings revealed that a congregation has to heal from its wounds before it can effectively engage in mission with God. This issue is due partly to the practice of local church autonomy, especially for Baptists in the Southern United States who were formed and part of the Southern Baptist Convention. This project focuses on the ordination practices of Cooperative Baptist Fellowship pastors in North Carolina and Virginia who locate themselves within this Baptist tradition. This report discovers which particular practices the pastors identified as meaningful in their ordination, most specifically which practices continue to sustain them in ministry today. This report explores the relationship between prayer and devotional practices and theories of personality type. It uses the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator as a primary instrument in determining what particular practices are beneficial and sustainable by the faithful. The literature review and the case study reveal that collaboration is possible when ministries have a supporting entity that requires them to work together. This project concludes that a collaboration of churches can create a council, which will provide resources as an incentive to collaborate. The author carried out his research using a narrative study methodology, also making use of ethnographic practices on both clergy and laity. The research concluded that a dark night of the soul starts with a perceived separation from God and leads to a reconnection with God.
