A process was developed involving education on the subject of Christian preaching, study groups and survey instruments to gain congregational input prior to preaching, and an evaluative method to be used during and following a sermon.  The process was then initiated and carried out in a congregational setting. This need is specifically manifested in regards to the nature and function of lay elders.  Through historical and biblical research the author developed a basis for designing educational and guidance resources to be used in aiding lay elders to serve effectively in their congregation.  The result is a twelve-month study guide (leader's and learner's) for education in the nature and duties of lay elders and a calling guide to aid lay elders in making calls in specific situations which may relate to the congregational office. This vehicle can be used as one of the many avenues for outreach. Adult children find themselves attempting to balance concern for their parents, their children, and their careers.  With little or no understanding of elder care before it is thrust upon them, adult children need to learn about the physical, emotional and spiritual needs that accompany the aging process.  This project revealed a wealth of information not readily recognized by caregivers. The purpose of the survey was to determine the level of stress and burnout in the pastors' lives.  The survey revealed that generally pastors are very satisfied with their calling as pastors, but they also revealed the pastors' strong proclivity to ignore wife and family, and to deny any possible warning signs of stress and burnout.  The findings also uncovered that pastors are eager to have support groups but find themselves not wanting to trust their fellow
