The author first examined the Missio Dei from a biblical and confessional perspective and then researched the confessional boundaries for the establishment of a Lutheran mission society in Michigan. The author conducted a series of interviews with several mission congregations planted since 2006. Comparing current mission models with the researched boundaries for Lutheran mission resulted in the discovery of a divergence between theology and practice. Witness, Mercy, and Life Together can be used as the framework for mission.  A combination of meetings, in depth study, and surveys of church planners.
