Not only is there ongoing confusion about the concept of the kingdom of God, but pastors also proclaim the gospel of the kingdom of God in a culture awash in pluralism.\r\n\r\n        Using a basic qualitative research design, this study conducted semi-structured interviews with multiple pastors experienced in preaching the kingdom of God. The interviews focused on gaining data with four research questions: 1) how do pastors describe the kingdom of God is at hand, 2) what challenges do pastors face, 3) what strategies do pastors use, and 4) what outcomes do pastors desire when proclaiming the kingdom of God is at hand to congregations living in pluralistic societies?\r\n\r\n        The literature review focused on three key areas to gain a broader understanding proclaiming the kingdom of God is at hand in a pluralistic society: the meaning of Jesus’s proclamation in Mark 1:15, the relationship between the church and the kingdom of God, and the practices of preachers who proclaim the gospel of the kingdom in a pluralistic society.\r\n\r\n        This study concluded that greater clarity is needed for pastors who proclaim the kingdom of God is at hand in pluralistic societies. The study utilized a qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with seven senior active duty Navy chaplain corps leaders serving in the Pacific Northwest. The research found six broad categories of issues related to religious pluralism, and exposed how chaplains themselves have been transformed, how their relationships have been affected, and how their preaching, teaching, counseling and public prayers have been influenced as a result of the religiously diverse environment.
