Employing qualitative research, the author reviewed pertinent literature and interviewed seven Christian pastors who preach to local congregations and whose sermons are podcast. The study found reasons to be concerned that podcasting pastors' sermons might alter the way they preach to their congregants. The study utilized a qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with seven senior active duty Navy chaplain corps leaders serving in the Pacific Northwest. The research found six broad categories of issues related to religious pluralism, and exposed how chaplains themselves have been transformed, how their relationships have been affected, and how their preaching, teaching, counseling and public prayers have been influenced as a result of the religiously diverse environment. The research, following a literature review, engaged qualitative methodology through personal interviews guided by four research questions. These questions explored the participants' beliefs about inerrancy, their approaches to difficult texts, their methods of interpretation which were largely individualistic, and their reliance upon God's guidance in understanding texts. A qualitative study was carried out to explore the factors which encourage ministers to take sabbatical leave. This study suggests that the denomination needs to work at explaining the need for and benefits of sabbatical leave and to be more proactive in encouraging ministers. The focus of this dissertation was to discover why these men enter the PCA. Study reveals that pastors are drawn to the denomination as a result of reformed theology, the divine call to racial reconciliation, and the desire to plants churches as a strategy to build the kingdom of God. Dealing with the needs of commuter households, determining ways to enable them to participate meaningfully in the life and ministry of the church, and facilitating the transformation of a commuter church into an outward focused, community-anchored church are adaptive problems.
