The desire to do this research comes from the biblical mandate given by the Lord Jesus Christ to make disciples (Matt 28:19-20). Developing God's people into leaders who demonstrate Christ-like character is not only the greatest need in the world today, but also in today's church; therefore, developing competent spiritual leadership through discipleship must be its top priority. The following questions are answered: What can churches do to prepare men and women to develop into godly leaders? What can Waukegan Community Church do to become a disciple-making reproducing church? Will Discipleship for leadership make a significant contribution in helping Waukegan Community Church become a disciple-making, leader-developing church? This author led nineteen members of his congregation through the course.  Each participant was given a likert scale measuring instrument before and after the course as well as an exit survey for comments and observations.  The hypothesis of this research project was that Discipleship for Leadership will prove to be a valuable tool in developing future leaders for Redeemer Bible Church. The body of the dissertation is divided into four parts. A literature review that highlights the core issues gleaned from previous research as well as literature pertinent to the subject of discipleship specifically geared to developing leaders is provided. The procedure and research method used is given. A report of the results of the research is provided. Finally, conclusions and research implications are given. The author believes the continuing development of leaders consistent with the discipleship model found in the NT is vital to the life and ministry of Coppell Bible Fellowship, the church that the author planted over ten years ago and remains the pastor of today. Discipleship for Leadership addresses the shortage of leaders in local churches by training small-group leaders.
