The researcher preached a twelve-week sermon series as Cross Community Church in Poteau, Oklahoma. Each sermon focused on motivating the listeners to display biblical attitudes and behaviors toward one another. The testing utilized a qualitative survey that was developed by the author. It asked if an expository sermon series taught to emerging worshipers on the biblical book of James would result in an increase in head knowledge, heart desire to serve others, and participants taking part in community service projects. The researcher preached a series of thirteen sermons to a church in Toronto, Canada. The same sermon was preached to two congregations each Sunday.  In one of the services the theme was illustrated by 35mm slides; in the alternate service, the same illustration was preached without visual support. Five double-blind experiments using written exercises tested that hypothesis in small groups at Four Oaks Community Church in Tallahassee, Florida. Questionnaires, focus groups, and interviews further explored the plausibility of the hypothesis. Neither the quantitative nor the qualitative measures were able to establish the hypothesis conclusively.
