The goal was to explore the role, significance, and potential value of practicing dignified dialogue with other Christians as a way to negotiate divergent theological perspectives in order to determine, in part, how the exchange of ideas via dialogue might broaden understanding and even rightfully further consideration of the subject. A phenomenological research method was employed to discover the lived experiences of Denver Seminary students who practiced dignified dialogue in group studies around the topic of biblical mutuality for ten weeks. Participants’ collective experiences revealed that though participating in dignified dialogue was a difficult, thought-provoking, and tumultuous practice, it was a necessary skill to further develop as it is an essential component of shared humanity . The study affirmed the importance of dignified dialogue as a way to navigate conflict among Christians for the purpose of growing in Christlikeness, modeling unity among diversity, and sharing God’s reconciling love with a broken world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133371019034624,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:18:13.198Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:52:16Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:30:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"dabd2235-2224-4c33-b1ed-2aac2e5cde86","accessControl_ssim":["5b5e11f2-0d7d-49fb-947c-a149f2682e36"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Who I am in Christ: how increasing one's self-knowledge before God impacts relational isolation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:52:15Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:23:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["274e2d6f-8f5f-4ac1-ac65-b3f521c48532"],"hasLease_ssim":["3479a527-d83f-40b9-8c51-0f3e8a1e2b80"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Dewayne C Ramsey"],"year_tesim":["2015"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Doug J Friesen"],"keyword_tesim":["Self-knowledge","Relation (Theology)","God and human beings"],"publisher_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Christians","Identity (Psychology)","Adoption (Theology)","Theology","Social isolation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Results from the Who I am in Christ seminar, derived from the Who I am in Christ survey, supported the research hypothesis that increasing one's self-knowledge before God (SKBG), combined with experiences of self-disclosure including requesting feedback from one close friend, would decrease one's sense of relational isolation. The observable means for all elements of perfectionism tested (Self-oriented, Other-oriented, Socially-prescribed) were in the expected direction, but only in Self-Oriented Perfectionism was statistically significant reduction observed."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133419944542208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:18:59.858Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:51:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:22:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5f8517cf-0f19-4253-a6fd-ecd8272128e1","accessControl_ssim":["f5a781f4-6bb6-4858-87cc-a6fcf0401314"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Spiritual and social determinants of marriage satisfaction as practiced in a church-based small group at Immanuel Lutheran Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:51:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:56:10Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["db364a99-924a-4203-8000-4aafafa914e4"],"hasLease_ssim":["efea87a0-f467-4d39-9fc9-a3c0f0d66b37"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David R Osborn"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Theodore H Merrill"],"publisher_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Lutheran Church","Christian communities","Small groups","Marriage--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The current research provides an integration of theological and psychological constructs contributing to marital health and satisfaction.
