The material emphasized history, doctrine, and polity.  It was designed for use by youth and adults in both group and independent study settings.  Research from the fields of documentary, creative, and objective studies was utilized in preparing the material.  The work was submitted to a panel of six judges from diverse backgrounds for evaluation. It presents a biblical and theological foundation for evangelism and growth.  The study condenses general church growth theories and principles into their main principles and highlights unique features of growth in the middle-sized church.  It enumerates the distinctive features of United Methodist churches which may help or hinder growth.  The project then examines growth potential of a specific congregation.  It suggests a model for a five year growth plan and a process for implementing these recommendations. Its primary purpose was to determine the extent to which members and attenders of a large suburban church were being incorporated into its life and organizational structure.  A research questionnaire and a series of interviews with church members who had dropped out of active involvement with the church were the research tools used to gather data, the analysis of which was used to determine the degree of assimilation.
