The project consisted of five sessions with the young adult choir of Pendleton Street Baptist Church (Greenville, SC) in a retreat setting.  The group answered questionnaires and discussed how certain types of music met their spiritual needs and how it could be used to meet those of their generation.  The study concluded that hymnody, classical music and contemporary Christian music best met the needs of this particular group. The project for the study was an experiment in participatory preaching.  A control group selected from the congregation of the First Baptist Church (Elberton, Georgia) evaluated the effectiveness of four sermons preached at the church.  The sermons were examples of participatory preaching. A caveat required this be accomplished with dignity.  The church was disconnected from its Christian heritage.  Canon's minister developed a medical ministry model.  The minister became physician and the congregation patient.  Preaching and pastoral care were used to recover the heritage and restore a sense of dignity. They reflected on 1 Cor 10:14-22 and 11:17-34 and various liturgical forms from the Didache to Keith Watkins' model of communion service.  The study determined a need for changes in the standard liturgy. The research, accomplished through mail-out questionnaires and personal interviews, also considers the impact on the counselor/client relationship of a pastoral counselor's performance of other clergy roles in a local church that sponsors a parish-based counseling ministry. Results confirmed that counselees who are active church members respond more positively to pastoral counseling than inactive or unchurched counselees.  However, the performance of other clergy roles by the counselor did not have a negative effect on the counseling process. An effort to build a trust relationship had to begin.  To accomplish this, the congregation had to understand the pastor in certain images. These images, servant, child, friend, and partner, would be topics of sermons describing the congregation and pastor. This understanding would assure the acceptance of pastor and congregation.  The enlistment of a small response group of church members and a spiritual mentor proved to be helpful. This training is needed because many people do not know how to study the Bible for themselves.  Research involved three main areas: discipleship, leadership and training, and small groups. Biblical and contemporary sources on each topic were researched.
