Smith-Sloan"],"subject_tesim":["Christian life","Spiritual life","Christian education","African Americans--Religion"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This ethnographic study explored how five, Black, Christian, female public school educators – three teachers, one counselor, and one administrator – practiced principles of Christian faith and exemplified acts of faith in ways that positively affected and impacted their work environment, their students, parents, and peers while remaining cognizant of ethics that give inference to the separation of church and state in public education. Mt. Hope Baptist Church is a historically African American church nestled in a moderately rural Virginia community, which is in the midst of an enormous population, socioeconomic, and demographic transition. How will this community transition impact Mt. Hope? The purpose of the research was to determine what effect, if any, a relational meeting campaign and two multicultural, multiracial Christian education classes would have on incorporating multicultural, nonblack attendees into the life of Mt. Hope Baptist Church. The research determined that the threshold to incorporate multicultural, nonblack attendees into the life of Mt. Hope Baptist church has been traversed. It was based on an approach to confirmation as a process of identity formation. The project concluded with a 'mission worship' led by the youth in which samulnori and other aspects of Korean culture were introduced into the confirmation service. The results of this project revealed that the teachers have a strong sense of vocation and commitment as teachers.  However, they lack self-confidence as teachers due to their inadequate training and preparation. A fifth criterion, release of energy or action, is not present or not determined by the evaluation methods of the study.
