Isaiah","Preaching","Pastoral counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project focuses on the role of the delivery of pastoral care during the preaching moment as a means of cultivating, facilitating, and strengthening healthy marriages in the context of the Black church. The benefits of combining pastoral care, sermon preparation, and preaching in a retreat setting to several married couples are explored. Designed to help couples develop healthy relationship skills and competencies, the sermons provide biblical references, theological information, and practical tools of pastoral counselors. I show through contextual practice how couples learn skills and receive tools to assist them with cultivating a healthy marriage. In the black church context, such issues and the resulting hurt experienced by congregations have become almost normative, and the means by which it has been addressed is limited at best. People who have suffered from betrayal, hurt, and loss are often told to “let go and let God.” The perpetuation of this has often taken place from the pulpit, which should be a place from which the good news of Christ’s unending grace is preached. Grounding the study in Sallie McFague's model of God as parent, the project employs David Heller's methodology to investigate each child's image of God in a two-hour interview, finding several common themes: sexual identity, female identity development, separation and inequality, intimacy, creation, comforter, authority, and dynamic action. As a personality typology founded on the psychodynamics of sin in nine different self-presentations, the Enneagram can be used with a theologically based phenomenology and it identifies a direction for continued spiritual growth for each type. Workshop participants find the Enneagram useful in addressing issues of spirituality and increasing self-understanding and insight, but its usefulness in revealing and explaining sin is more limited. The project conducts a group interview and individual, in-depth interviews with four men whose experiences with female/feminine images of God move them toward more positive self-concepts. The project concludes that a significant correlational relationship appears to exist between 'integrative' and 'disintegrative' spiritual emergence phenomena and individual responses of fear or anxiety. The informants were selected on the basis of their commitment and level of participation in the center.  This qualitative research encompassed a semistructured interview guide.  Five clients and five counselors were interviewed to determine the effectiveness of using womanist theology in the development of a pastoral counseling center.  The conclusion indicates that it is useful to use womanist theology in the development of a pastoral counseling center.
