A significant relationship among these three elements, previously overlooked in the psychological and pastoral care literature, was hypothesized.  The psychoanalytic concept of transference and the theological use of metaphor were used to examine these connections.  Taking a qualitative research approach, the author interviewed four female pastoral counselors. Data was analyzed using six themes of sibling/work relationships which emerged in the literature review. Over the past five-year period, interviews were conducted in a population consisting of Brethren clergy, district executives, and laypersons in three districts.  These districts represent 80 percent of the total Brethren population area.  The research undertaken for this project involved a phenomenological/experiential and analytical/interpretive methodology. One hundred and twelve United Methodist Church members listened to a simulated counseling session.  Positive and negative responses were measured by the Counselor Evaluation Scale developed for this project.  Religious subjects reported higher positive and lower negative reactions when they believed the counselor to be a United Methodist minister or a Christian pastoral counselor than when they believed the counselor was a psychotherapist, but no difference was discovered between the ratings for the minister and the pastoral counselor. Using formative evaluative research, seven steps in developing the model included one initial implementation, plus evaluations and revisions.  The final model includes a description of the brief assessment process and criteria on which to base the clergy assessment.  Findings supported, but did not prove, the usability and effectiveness of the model. These were based on the biblical concept of the tithe, the stewardship teachings of Jesus and Paul, a theology of money, and various psychological motivations. The process included outside consultation, a four-session study course and five sermons on stewardship.  The pre- and post-course evaluation demonstrated that the study course significantly changed beliefs about stewardship and tithing, and promoted participation in the endowment fund. Undergirding this project are the psychological studies showing that children's representations of God are usually formed from internalized images of parents; these early images of God usually remain influential in a person's life.  The research was conducted by means of individual interviews with both oral questions and printed word-pairs regarding the participants' parents and their current and childhood God-images.  The data showed that the survivors' God-images generally did have characteristics similar to mothers.  The data also showed that generally the more severe the incest and the earlier the onset, the more negative the God-image of the survivor. It conceptualizes, implements and evaluates a vision of the role of the Korean immigrant church in the United States. The practicum included focused interviews and a questionnaire survey which was an effort to find, observe and identify the problems/needs of bilingual/cross-cultural ministry in the Korean immigrant church and community. To do this, three self-select groups (well-parented, dysfunctionally parented and reparented respondents) were all given a combination 'questionnaire-interview' (based primarily on the thinking of Kohut, Winnicott and Langs) and the MMPI.  Results were sought on seven specific MMPI scales.  Although the research hypotheses were not proved using these seven scales, several unhypothesized findings were worthwhile: there were correlations between the self-select group and overall health through general impressions of the whole of MMPI profiles looking at all the scales together.
