Research in local church ministry relationships determines how poor relationships affect the mission and purpose of the church. Extensive materials on local church relationships and the theory of ministry relationships are available.  However, little practical material on improving relationships is available.  The research reveals that the hindrance of local church ministry by poor relationships between clergy and laity is a Protestant-wide problem.  Primary resources suggest a biblical and theoretical model for the improvement of ministry relationships.  The model proposes small groups which is the nominal group technique. Church growth is a product of the cooperative endeavor of a pastor and laymen.  For this project the pastors' Church Study Committee and the laymen's local Church Growth Committee were organized.  Seminars were held and questionnaires were prepared to identify church growth factors and their effect in the local churches.  The pastors' committee evaluated the questionnaires. The results were shared with the Church Growth Committee in each local church. Questionnaires were sent to over two hundred interested persons.  Study groups took the information and concluded that the greatest needs of the directors of associational missions and their wives relate to isolation.  Support groups were enlisted in four associations.  The design of the support meeting included planned activities to break down barriers, share and prayer time and informal conversation and games. The design of system analysis provided an excellent way of organizing and developing the project. The methodology was to use surveys, committee evaluations and committee reports.  The committee reports were presented to the church.  System analysis was used to study each ministry.  The result was a ten-percent increase in awareness of the ministries of First Baptist Church.  A similar increase was evidenced in the involvement of the members in ministry. Questionnaires to the community, church and other similar Southern Baptist churches were used to provide data. Information drawn from the results of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator also aided in the development of the plan.  The concept of 'church types' provided help in determining goals for the congregations.
