Pastors were to select a group of men from their churches to participate in leadership development through a mentoring process that would cultivate a disciple relationship and develop their skills in a ministry setting under the tutelage of a mentor coach. The project was a success. The project was intentionally designed for the growth of both the mentor and the student.  The project utilized learner-centered mentoring to accomplish the project's purpose.  In this mentoring paradigm the responsibility for the learning experience is shared as a means to deepen the spiritual lives of college students and utilize the influence of each mentor. The project was structured around training sessions, weekly meetings, and follow-up sessions. Relationships are essential to the proper maturation and growth of an individual. Unfortunately, at-risk youth fail to experience positive, nurturing connections with significant adults in their lives.  Mentors have a valuable opportunity to demonstrate to a young person these lacking qualities through an intimate relationship of mutual trust.  This project focuses on leading a group of adults through the beginning stages of forming a mentoring relationship with a young person susceptible to self-deprecating behavior without intervention.
