The purpose was to attract students that would not consider a traditional education program and offer them a highly contextualized, intensive training opportunity.  In preparing the model, the supervising committee drew upon the expertise of its members and a survey of similar training programs. The retreat was implemented in July 1987 with sixteen students.  Subjective and objective analysis produced excellent results.
