Utilizing a Twelve Step-oriented methodology, the writer advocates a theocentric as opposed to a humanistic approach for improving self-esteem. Working with women at one California-managed prison--Northern California Women's Facility--the writer researches the variables affecting Christian converts who live in the environment of incarceration.  Quantitative and qualitative comparison is performed between a target and control group. Research reveals that incarcerated women's self-esteem is enhanced with consistent counseling, monitoring, and covenant goals. The program consisted of four children's sermons, four adult sermons, a nine-hour workshop, and four weekly seminars.  The author believed that by presenting sound biblical and psychological principles and personal experiences related to self-esteem, participants would show an improvement in their own level of self-esteem.  It was the writer's hypothesis that by helping the participants change the way they thought about themselves, they would change the way they felt about themselves.  Evaluation instruments included the Personal Orientation Inventory, the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis, and the Tennessee Self Concept Scale.
