They have limited Southern Baptist experience.  This project is designed to help these church members cooperate as Southern Baptists. Experimental and control groups were tested on knowledge, attitudes and involvement in Southern Baptist polity and the Southern Baptist cooperative program.  The experimental group was trained in six two-hour sessions in these areas. Both groups were tested at the conclusion of the sessions. Questionnaires to the community, church and other similar Southern Baptist churches were used to provide data. Information drawn from the results of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator also aided in the development of the plan.  The concept of 'church types' provided help in determining goals for the congregations. Individuals discovered the unique needs of their congregation through guided lectures and brainstorming sessions utilizing historical, personal and biblical resources.  They then defined biblical understandings of New Testament church growth.  From this they developed strategies for growth that addressed their specific needs, and embraced these biblical insights.  The growth process, thus defined, involved and equipped participants for service in their respective congregations. The Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis Test is the primary testing instrument.  Significant change occurred in three areas: attitudes, individual profiles, and selected temperament traits. The project consisted of ministry during a Western Pacific Deployment aboard USS Shiloh (CG-67) from August 17, 2000, until February 17, 2001. The project leader developed a program consisting of worship, religious education, community outreach, counseling, and deck-plate ministry for a mixed gendered crew that consisted of 430 sailors, chief petty officers, and commissioned officers. As a result, the crew experienced the free exercise of religion and a community of sharing. The project consisted of conception, development, implementation, and evaluation phases. A major emphasis of the project involved developing a theology and theory of spiritual direction that would communicate to Pentecostal pastors. This was presented in a seminar to a select group of Assemblies of God ministers from the San Francisco Bay Area from January to April of 2001.
