The contention was that if the sanctuary, holy space, had been profaned, the people had likewise been profaned. The author accomplished this through congregational participation in a liturgy rededicating the church and reconsecrating the sanctuary. The result was threefold. First, it reestablished the covenant between the congregation and God. Second, it acknowledged the negativity of the past and looked to the future with hope. Such churches often become stuck in a cycle of bad relationships with pastors, which is triangulated into conflicted relationships between the members of the congregation. This project describes the two-year pilgrimage of healing for 'Church of the Warm Heart.' Four factors were primary instruments for healing. The congregation made a choice to heal. A process addressed conflict, grief and shame.
