An analysis was done of the practice in Nebraska from 2000 to 2009. The knowledge and skill sets required by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church nationally were also analyzed. The current Nebraska practices and the national sets recommended were compared to best practice as seen in entry level seminary preaching courses. Mexicans in particular share their practices with the larger Catholic community.  This challenges congregations and preachers as they attempt to minister to this ever growing population. The author begins with an exploration of the current wave of immigration, comparing and contrasting it with past immigration history.
