Paying attention to those conversations bridges a gap that exists in the congregation, leads to a connection between the preacher/leader and congregation and consequently provides the arena for significant preaching and shared ministry. This author used methods of research, experience, case study, and conversations with congregational members. The conclusion of this study demonstrates that when the preacher pays attention to the on-going conversations and culture, there is an honoring and appreciation of one another that closes the gap between the pulpit and the pew."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721663191842816,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:25:26.866Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:49:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:08:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b62afe34-a879-4932-a67e-d32881dc29ba","accessControl_ssim":["dd223327-6070-44e1-bc12-a51fc04b0aca"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Restoring the phoenix: pastoral care and preaching--post 9/11 as a concept for ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:49:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:23:22Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b2874f5e-4e5c-4325-b818-d65e5208228a"],"hasLease_ssim":["4fe3ca56-1c31-4002-98f8-d6f44301f11f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Iliff School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Richard F Ward"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Scott Schiesswohl"],"publisher_tesim":["Iliff School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["September 11 Terrorist Attacks (2001)","Pastoral theology--Methodist Church","Psychic trauma"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Throughout history there have been traumatic events that have affected people, and the ministries of the church have addressed these events at the individual and community levels. The author uses the West African oral traditions of storytelling as practiced by the West African griot to develop the images of pastor/griot and the preacher/griot. Using these images and the Emmaus Road story found in Luke 24:13-35, the author develops the Emmaus Road model for pastoral care and the formation of the funeral sermon. The model illustrates the unique way the preacher/griot can develop a funeral sermon that brings comfort to the bereaved by reframing death through the lens of resurrection."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129259748622336,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:12:52.386Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:31:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:33:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e6c14208-5638-4fb2-86db-b482cac2593b","accessControl_ssim":["b11b4197-4dd6-4f3b-8be4-4b22900fff4b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Theobiography: searching for divine images in our personal stories"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:31:18Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:43:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a3613b09-888a-4417-b1c9-cc2c708e9082"],"hasLease_ssim":["6da6d07e-fba4-4b9d-a672-4a909873f853"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Iliff School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Richard F Ward"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Betty J Bradford"],"keyword_tesim":["Reflection (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Iliff School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author proposes that people of faith are committed to multiple images of God and that every image of God has the potential to create or destroy the religious life.
