The project took the form of an eight-session adult Bible study course.  Through follow-up evaluative conversations, the author determined that the class achieved its goal and a further goal of being spiritually significant for participants. The author studied this thesis by locating church leaders according to Robert Kegan's personality balances and then observing their actual behavior through the process of making a key decision in the life of the local church.  He found that Kegan's theory of constructive-developmental personality was helpful in understanding the differences that were demonstrated in the various ways the church leaders envisioned, implemented, and evaluated the decision that confronted them. Seven one-hour classes were held in which the participants engaged in a critical reflection of their own praxis while reflecting on a series of five sermons dealing with cultural and theological assumptions toward gender stratification in regard to language, power and models for God.
