Mainline Christian congregations are experiencing a reformation never before encountered. Pastors and congregations recognize the tensions existent in the context of the Christian faith experience. Each year fewer people remain linked to the Christian endeavor. Church leaders are searching for answers. The author addresses the necessity of faithful and visionary leadership at this time. The project is a result of years of research including interviews with other clergy in the American context regarding the task of disciple-making. It considers the feelings of some leaders of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania towards folk healing and presents a view of human wholesomeness and health, sickness, suffering, death and life after death from a biblical point of view. Health and healing is grounded in a doctrine of creation and in a modeling of ministry in Jesus's work as a servant.
