Study of Scripture, classical theology, and the work of modern Christian writers reveals that community-based spirituality lies at the core of historic Christianity, but an emphasis on individualism has often distorted and corrupted it. Our lives are intertwined with God's and with one another through the Lord's Supper and in small growth groups.  The research for this paper was done through ministry projects in the congregation, observation and participation in small groups outside the congregation, workshops in small groups, and reading in the field of community and small group development.
