The faithful preaching of a theology of the cross communicates God's saving grace for all.  This study underscores the reality that Scripture is read and interpreted on the basis of lived experiences both as individuals and as persons in community.  Based on questionnaire responses and parish intervention discussions, the paper maintains that preaching, with the intent of fostering spiritual growth for all members in the Anglo-Hispanic parish setting, will be a more effective tool toward this end if it is attentive to differences in the understanding of spirituality."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133731870736384,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:23:57.334Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:13:45Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:16:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"077b0264-0529-4f9a-98a9-dc0fdeec278b","accessControl_ssim":["95a24008-9756-4640-9000-ac18399b8b7a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Living in Christian community: women's role in the spiritual community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:13:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:20:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["daf73a28-30c9-4fb4-aede-33411970ad47"],"hasLease_ssim":["f043fd38-cfc3-4773-92ea-43c983cdc2b6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Patricia E Johnson"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Community--Religious aspects","Christian communities","Spiritual life--Christianity","Women--Religious life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this paper is to explore women's spirituality and role in various religious communities and settings, through a variety of readings, interviews and personal experiences.  Research on the various denominations shows the different ways humans, particularly women, express their relationship with God and each other and how that is worked out in their lives individually and in community.  The denominations studied are: Roman Catholics, Mennonites, Hutterites, Shakers and Quakers. Spirituality is the connectedness that humans experience with God, but it also calls them to interact with each other and to act in the world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133246074912768,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:16:14.043Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:03:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:19:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"43da2a91-ff0b-40f9-ac96-4dda0766a938","accessControl_ssim":["3ddc59aa-c465-4249-bc69-46b9b16c7b8e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Spirituality: the search for a full active life"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:03:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:06:10Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e1406f2d-f6c6-408c-85ba-cec2a815cfa6"],"hasLease_ssim":["9a170250-b7e1-49e9-b109-72873a97d91a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Jay C Rochelle"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paul C Walker"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Spiritual life--Christianity","Storytelling--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Spirituality is life, the feeling, breathing, touching of the soul.  A spiritual person is alive, attuned to every aspect of life.  In my thesis I tell my story, the story of others and that of a congregation.  Telling our stories is important.  If I am going to be spiritually effective as a healing pastor I need to share my journey of pain and hope, of struggle and joy.  If a group of people is to be effective as a congregation, its members must be comfortable in sharing their stories. The most success in treating this disease has come through a renewal of one's spirituality. Personal spirituality focuses on one's higher power, the self, relationships, surrender, conversion, trust, and a host of other issues, which are all core parts of the AA program.  This paper has used the alcoholic and the recovery process of AA's twelve steps as a paradigm for growth in spirituality for everyone facing a variety of dis-eases that disrupt modern life.  This process has been correlated with biblical insights and concepts as the foundation of Christian spirituality.  Research was accomplished through conversations, counseling experiences, and personal study with the people and the program of AA as seen from a Christian perspective."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133714336448512,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:23:40.611Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Douglas C Gast","hits":1,"label":"Douglas C Gast"},{"value":"Patricia E Johnson","hits":1,"label":"Patricia E Johnson"},{"value":"Paul C Walker","hits":1,"label":"Paul C Walker"},{"value":"William C Bengtson","hits":1,"label":"William C Bengtson"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Spiritual life--Christianity","hits":4,"label":"Spiritual life--Christianity"},{"value":"Alcoholics Anonymous","hits":1,"label":"Alcoholics Anonymous"},{"value":"Christian communities","hits":1,"label":"Christian communities"},{"value":"Community--Religious aspects","hits":1,"label":"Community--Religious aspects"},{"value":"Hispanic Americans","hits":1,"label":"Hispanic Americans"},{"value":"Interpersonal relations","hits":1,"label":"Interpersonal relations"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":4,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago","hits":4,"label":"Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":4,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1992","hits":3,"label":"1992"},{"value":"1991","hits":1,"label":"1991"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago","hits":4,"label":"Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago","hits":4,"label":"Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":4,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":4,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
