The thesis summarizes work done in foundations of gestalt therapy, a pastoral care model presented by Clebsch and Jaekle (healing, sustaining, guiding, reconciling), and primary chemical dependency treatment (utilizing the Minnesota Model).  The author then presents case illustrations dealing with an individual stuck in past history, a  family with communication difficulties, a couple trapped by the past, a grief experience, and an individual seeking a sense of safety. The study was limited to 69 women respondents who represent ten denominations.  Data was gathered through written questionnaires distributed by mail. Results indicate that the ordination and employment process is difficult for women.  74 percent report being hurt in their search for employment and ordination and 50 percent have run into discriminatory practices.
