Normally, an individual deals with a professional organization or a set of rules defined by their employer to provide guidelines for ethical decision-making. This is not the case for military chaplains, specifically Family Life Chaplains; they have multiple areas of influence that provide input when dealing with ethical dilemmas. Military chaplains are provided input from their ecclesiastical endorser; their religion; their scripture; military regulations; military memoranda; other military documents; professional organizations; federal, state, and other laws; and other areas. When confronted with an ethical decision, chaplains need to take into consideration all of these pieces of input, figure out a way to organize them in a hierarchical format, and then make an informed decision that is in the best interest of the person they are helping. This paper presents a five-step process and uses a graphical presentation based on the genogram to provide a visual representation of the decision making model. A key component of the model takes into consideration multiple 'informants' or ourtside influences that impact the individual's decision-making when confronted with an ethical dilemma and helps them organize the 'informants' into a logical, hierarchical format to assist in making a decision. It is a challenging aspects of life.  Traumatic events may come while serving as a member of the armed forces in a time of combat.  Knowing how to conduct therapy is only one element of providing care.  This project will look at how attachment, liturgy, ritual, counseling, and preaching can serve as elements of pastoral care.  Exploring these elements provides a reminder of how we tap into valuable procedures for pastoral care. Getting help enables a person to cope. The training used an action and reflection model. The chaplains actively engaged in ministry while reflecting upon the theological basis for that ministry. The Confessions of Saint Augustine of Hippo was the primary resource for spiritual self-examination. Chaplains need to be spiritually ready for ministry in war. This training occurred during 2003-2004 at Chapel Five, Fort Dix, New Jersey.
