The project enlists church members in intentional involvement with sermons before, during, and after worship, individually and in groups. Participants prepare for a sermon, focus their listening with questions during the sermon, respond to the sermon in an experiential rather than homiletically critical way in small groups meeting with the preacher, and continue consideration of the sermon in journal questions for several days afterward. It is a method for doing the EMR with a small group for a period of six weeks, with emphasis on a biblical and theological understanding of Christian stewardship.  The intention is to provide more depth and involvement in the mission of the congregation, resulting in increased member participation and support.  A pilot test was conducted at Grace Lutheran Church (Wyndmoor, PA), resulting in significant increases in pledges of time, abilities and resources.
