In each is an element of uncontrollable mystery: one's vulnerability at font and table, one's lack of control in transitional moments, and one's chutzpah in preaching God's Word.  She concluded that, in times of transition, the preacher should focus on the goodness of God and the mysteries of God, rather than trying to force a premature resolution. Impediments were performance anxiety among potential volunteers, apathy, and inhospitality.  The theological mandate was to enable involvement in ministry as an expression of worship and as joyful fulfillment of membership vows. Change theory model was soil preparation, planting and harvest.  Change was accomplished through dialogue in a safe, hospitable environment.  Interventions included theological interpretation of music in rehearsals, development of hospitality, recruiting, encouragement, and training of potential volunteers. The project uses a time line to reveal the unique history of a recently united, small, rural church, along with a sermon series highlighting the value of storytelling, and new worship rituals that include prayer, dialogues, and Bible reading.
