Therefore, all members of the church must function as parts of the body. Given this theological mandate, the purpose of this thesis is to find ways in which all members of the church can function properly as parts of the body. There are three symptoms identified in this thesis as indicators that the body of Christ is not working properly. Each individual member belongs to Christ and is gifted by the Spirit for the common good.  The primary impediment is excessive individualism, causing the church to become a voluntary association.  A vision of the church which is more biblical and more faithful to the Baptist tradition is necessary to change that which prevents the members of Christ's body from sharing power.  This thesis presents an initial process from sharing power. Many congregations have anchored their life in their buildings rather than in their Lord.  This project examines the relationship of buildings to mission, looking for a way to balance buildings with vision and ministry.  The study shows that congregations have struggled with this issue for generations.  Two separate congregations began a process of building assessment.  Their different motivations for participation affected their results.
