In the Korean Tampa congregation, an attempt is made to develop the church's mission with poor people.  We appear to be happy and joyful within the boundaries of the church, and we close our eyes to what is outside of the boundaries. A hot meal service program for hungry people has been created.  It is not for church growth, but for the poor people because Jesus commanded us to feed the hungry.  We need to have mission through our hands and bodies. During these years, first-generation Koreans worked toward better socio-economic positions and lifestyles.  However, while these parents were working hard, their children grew up without much love or interest from the parents.  Two different lifestyles of the first and second generations were starting to make a wall between them.  This wall manifested itself at home and at church as separation of these two groups.  The difference in language, culture and values further separated these two groups.  The church is given the task of reconciling and restoring first and second generations' relationship and treating their wounds. The writer has begun a retreat program that can allow second-generation children to discover a new identity, and Korean language school that can improve their relationship by better understanding each other. The thesis of this paper is that children can contribute creative ideas which will add new life and interest to the sermons. To demonstrate this, children, ages six to twelve, were engaged in a study of the Scriptures for each sermon. This required a great deal of preparation on the part of the preacher. Every pastor wants the church to be what God what it wants to be.  It is important how the church should grow and in which way it should nurture and guide its members.  Jesus selected disciples and trained them, so that he could send them as servants.  The Apostle Paul said that the fundamental way for persons to mature is through discipleship training.  The Korean church has grown quantitatively in a way which is unparalleled in any other country.  The zeal as people get together is so tremendous that the impact of church meetings such as morning prayer, night prayer, diocesan worship are incalculable.  This thesis is about developing a discipleship training program which will focus more on the quality of Christian life and less on quantitative growth in the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128232489123840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:56:32.715Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:46:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:55:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4cb2bde4-5493-422a-aecf-d016a59f2f6a","accessControl_ssim":["b32216fe-e7a4-40d7-b6f6-3f11d40586e3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An historic church searches for tomorrow"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:45:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:23:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bb4f90e4-b0b1-4efa-ac8b-1757fedb6a2a"],"hasLease_ssim":["34d30919-aa83-479c-856f-74a49b26c539"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Thomas R Hawkins"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David P Humphreys"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church renewal"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["For a 170-year-old church to become a Christian community that can survive to reach 200, it must discover its historic identity with an explicit purpose that is developed by its current members. As an agent of the church, the Catholic school shares the Church's mission of passing on the faith to youth.  Maturing in faith is both a personal and a communal journey.  Personal maturity in faith is nurtured and reached through community. In the educational environment this occurs when there is collaboration between leadership and board members.  This study sought to assist local administrators to become transformational leaders who will initiate a program and process to strengthen boards.  The result illustrated that the attitudes and skills of transformational leadership are needed to create any effective and participative group. This is facilitated when there is role clarification and when there is growth in participative decision-making."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128008393752576,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:52:59.001Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":24,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Boaz K Chang","hits":1,"label":"Boaz K Chang"},{"value":"Carol R Hermann","hits":1,"label":"Carol R Hermann"},{"value":"Chang-Su B Chung","hits":1,"label":"Chang-Su B Chung"},{"value":"David E Rosen","hits":1,"label":"David E Rosen"},{"value":"David P Humphreys","hits":1,"label":"David P Humphreys"},{"value":"Derek W McAleer","hits":1,"label":"Derek W McAleer"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Church and community","hits":1,"label":"Church and community"},{"value":"Reconciliation (Theology)","hits":1,"label":"Reconciliation (Theology)"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Korean Americans","hits":3,"label":"Korean Americans"},{"value":"Assimilation (Sociology)","hits":2,"label":"Assimilation (Sociology)"},{"value":"Christian life","hits":2,"label":"Christian life"},{"value":"Church growth","hits":2,"label":"Church growth"},{"value":"Church renewal","hits":2,"label":"Church renewal"},{"value":"Church renewal--Methodist Church","hits":2,"label":"Church renewal--Methodist Church"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"Canada","hits":1,"label":"Canada"},{"value":"Korea (South)","hits":1,"label":"Korea (South)"},{"value":"United States","hits":1,"label":"United States"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":24,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"McCormick Theological Seminary","hits":24,"label":"McCormick Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":24,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1994","hits":24,"label":"1994"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"McCormick Theological Seminary","hits":24,"label":"McCormick Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":24,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"McCormick Theological Seminary","hits":24,"label":"McCormick Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":24,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":2,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":3,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":24,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":false}}}
