This trend is particularly strong with the generation known as 'Millennials,' where more than thirty-five percent reported that their religious affiliation is 'None.' This report has been widely reported on and has generated incredible anxiety in churches. While many in the church blame culture for a rapid decline of religious faith, it is the purpose of this thesis to show that one reason for the precipitous drop in religious identification in the United States is that the church has ceased to speak about God in a way that connects to the lived-experience of Millennials. If the gospel is going to spread in a post-Christian culture, then the church must learn to use variegated language to speak about how God is to be found in the world. This thesis uses the Five Theological Worlds from W. Paul Jones as a launching point to offer a better way to connect the lived-experience of Millennials to the way they understand how God works in the world. Six Millennials were chosen to participate in this project, which began with each individual taking the Theological Worlds Inventory. After completing the Inventory, participants took part in one-hour long experiences of each of the five Theological Worlds. After the completion of the experiences, they were invited to take the Theological Worlds Inventory for the second time, with the hope that any change in Theological World could be measured by their responses. Follow up interviews were done with each of the six participants with questions geared to measure how each of the experiences impacted their lived-experience and their theological understanding of how God is at work in their lives. There were also four people who acted as a control group."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["http://hdl.handle.net/10898/10087"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128530002640896,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:01:16.445Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:05:28Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:43:00Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0bd84e78-51b9-4489-9214-867025efcc06","accessControl_ssim":["5c6ad1ef-6d52-444d-9332-4c16a28f1e8d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["From Disorientation to Reorientation: Introducing Theological Worlds to Enhance the Sense of Spiritual Support among Selected Students at Landmark Christian School"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:05:27Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:27:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a99c908f-987e-447f-9ee9-069135d12845"],"hasLease_ssim":["1e49523f-4871-495e-ade7-9a4eb7f72e9c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Mercer University, McAfee School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Larry McSwain Ph.D.","Graham Walker Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"location_tesim":["Georgia","United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. For many Christian teenagers, this disruption affects their faith, creating a period of disorientation. Previously, these young people assumed the faith of their parents, but adolescence opens the door to rethink and reassess those commitments. Unless they sense a personal, vital connection to their faith, they will likely move away from it in the future. This study introduced a group of twelfth-grade students at Landmark Christian School to W. Paul Jones’ concept of Theological Worlds. The researcher expected to learn what difference it makes for Christian adolescents who are experiencing a time of transition in their religious lives to consider which Theological Worlds they and others inhabit. The students were selected based upon their designation as “Transitional” by the Spiritual Experience Index – Revised (SEI-R). The project consisted of six weekly meetings with the group of thirteen participants. During each forty-five-minute meeting, different aspects of each Theological World were introduced through scripture, songs, and videos. Participants then recorded their reflections about what they had seen and heard. After finishing the six meetings, participants completed the SEI-R again to measure if any difference was made. Eleven out of the thirteen indicated an increased sense of support related to their faith. The average sense of support among the entire group had risen by almost nine percent. Follow-up interviews with the participants confirmed the accuracy of the data and brought further clarity to the factors that contributed to the increased scores. Among those factors was the sense that they were not alone in the ways they experience and express their faith. This thesis concludes by suggesting several ways that these findings can be applied both at and beyond Landmark Christian School to help adolescents move from disorientation to reorientation around the topic of faith."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["http://hdl.handle.net/10898/12350"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715219443810304,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:43:01.628Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:04:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:49:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"23ad7b00-0c14-4256-9caf-8589674d73e0","accessControl_ssim":["16b2bec2-907c-4169-817e-b8f837bd39f1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Scripture Meditation (Lectio Divina) And The Regulation Of Negative Reactions To Stress In Anderson University Students"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:04:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:11:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["30d656ea-46da-4469-a3fb-60653229ece9"],"hasLease_ssim":["b29f6cf4-0631-45c0-aa5b-dfd5119b9d60"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Mercer University, McAfee School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Denise Massey Ph.D.","Karen Massey Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"location_tesim":["South Carolina","United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The researcher sought to accomplish these goals through a series of four teaching sessions by introducing participants to the spiritual practice of Scripture meditation (Lectio divina). The research methodology was an experimental design and obtained both quantitative and qualitative data. The study was conducted on forty-seven recruited students from introductory behavioral science courses at Anderson UniversityStudents were randomly assigned to two groups: control group (n=23) and experimental group (n=24). During the first session participants completed several assessments that measured their stress, emotional regulation, and spirituality. While the control group received emails with suggestions for handling stress, the experimental group met weekly for four weeks to learn Scripture meditation. They were given journals with instructions on how to practice Scripture meditation privately, and they also prayed in small groups weekly. The same assessments given before the intervention were given at the conclusion of the intervention. The quantitative aspect involved completing ANOVAs to determine the statistical significance of the intervention. The qualitative component gathered data from student journals and private interviews. The results of the study revealed that, in comparison to the control group, the experimental group had significant differences on their scores between the pre- and post-assessments. The interviews also confirmed these findings. The results suggest that Scripture meditation assisted students in deepening their intimacy with God and provided them with an effective way of managing their negative emotional reactions to stress. Application of this study could be made to various populations who use their faith as a means of developing both mental and spiritual well-being."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["http://hdl.handle.net/10898/12347"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715625886547968,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:49:29.243Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
