This project followed the equipping program model. The project director conducted biblical research and developed materials to train a group of deacons to assist the pastoral staff in selected components of congregational care. In the first session, the director explored the meaning of servant leadership. In session two, he examined Old and New Testament models of servant leadership. In session three, the project director equipped the participants in the specific servant leadership ministries of encouragement and peacemaking. The competencies and theories of servant leadership, as well as the biblical foundation of leadership as applied within the local church, were then taught to the selected men. The instruction included seven sessions that utilized a variety of teaching methods to equip the men in servant leadership competencies. In order to accomplish the goals of this project, the project director researched the topic of leadership and identified various skills of servant leadership. From the skills identified, the director identified two and researched them further: 'the character of a servant leader' and 'the vision of a servant leader.' The project consisted of a leadership workshop made up of five one-hour sessions given over a perios of Friday evening through Saturday morning. The first session was an introduction to servant leadership. In sessions two and three, about the character of a servant leader, the focus was on the skills of humility, values, and integrity.
