The men attended two seminars.  One concentrated on marital relationships, using material from Marriage Insights Profile, The Two Sides of Love and The Five Love Languages.  The second seminar utilized material from The Seven Secrets of Effective Fathers.  The director developed a marital index instrument to be used in a pre-test/post-test method. The strategy emerged from research that included interviews, extant literature, and observation of the Nation of Islam that uncovered those factors that contribute to black male aversion to church. The project concluded that the primary deterrent to black male church participation was the failure of the black church to develop and implement outreach strategies. A training plan was developed utilizing available leadership materials and existing research. The training included seven didactic sessions covering the subjects of team leadership, servant leadership, personal leadership, team communication, team conflict, team spirituality, and team purpose/function. Each individual completed a spiritual gift inventory and participated in a consensus building activity. The team went on a weekend retreat which included one of the didactic sessions, and six different ropes course challenges.
