The author's belief is that this is best accomplished by viewing discipleship ministry through the lens of pastoral care.  The focus in this project is upon training church members (disciples) to provide meaningful initial interaction (discipling) with new members (disciples) which flows from an understanding of discipleship that is wholistic. A theology of pastoral care is provided. A design for a reproducible program of general visitation by persons in a congregation is given.  Forms are provided for assessing one's spiritual condition.  Growth in visitation skills is measured by a pre- and post-test given to each visitor. Spiritual growth of the visitors is assessed. Some of these perceptions apply to the churches in the community, and their characterization within these perceptions may have an impact upon their ministry. Schleiermacher, Barth, Bultmann, Tillich and Moltmann are considered as most important from theological literature.  Freud, Jung, Frankl, Maslow, Rogers and May are the psychologists discussed.  A case presentation is utilized to allow an interpretation of theological and psychological constructs.  Specific conclusions and implications are drawn for pastoral care, theological education, church ministry and lay application.
