Writing self-consciously from an embodied perspective of disability, the author--who has used a wheelchair for 20 years--demonstrates how Scripture presents, represents, explains, and interprets disabilities. Biblical narratives are stories and should be read as literature.  The concerns of literary analysis are the concerns of biblical narrative interpretation.  The practicum/project has established that the narrative approach is preferred to make the Scripture 'live' and become a part of one's relationship with God.  However, the historical-critical approach can be used in isolation from the other.  The decision an interpreter must make is which approach is primary. A four-chapter segment of Matthew was utilized in a five-week's Bible study project among Unitarian Universalists, with the intent of determining whether it would enhance appreciation for canonical scripture and sensitivity to the plight of an oppressed people. The six genres I considered were: saga, law, history, wisdom, prophets, and short-story.
